Specialist Surgical Interests

As a stone surgery specialist Mr Maan is particularly interested in minimally invasive procedures using telescopes, which utilise the natural passageways of the urinary tract or access organs using a ‘keyhole’ approach. This has the advantages of fewer complications and a more speedy recovery for patients.   Fine instruments and Holmium laser technology are used to remove stones and improve the drainage of the kidney or bladder to help prevent further stones forming.

For patients with enlarged prostates causing urinary symptoms Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (‘HoLEP’ for short) or Trans Urethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) is offered.   Mr Maan is also trained to carry out a number of paediatric surgical procedures, including circumcision.

Mr Maan’s specialist skills in stone surgery were honed during his Fellowship in Stone Surgery and Endourology at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, an institution accredited for training internationally by the American Urology Association and the European Association of Urology.
